Eliot Masters spent several decades specialising in cultivated and natural tropical plant products derived from traditional agroforestry systems. He has been involved in researching and recording traditional plant use and landscape management practices in Africa, particularly in northern Uganda. In 1988 Eliot founded COVOL Uganda, a non-governmental organisation focused on landrace crops and tree products of northern Uganda. Eliot subsequently developed Africa regional initiatives on the shea butter tree for the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (2004-2007), and convened a…

Chilly winter nights are a great reason to snuggle up indoors with a good book. Make your own thrifty, cuddly hot-water bottle cover from upcycled fabrics such as wool blankets, jumpers – then decorate with vintage notions like doilies or make your own buttons from recycled linen. In the digital era, boundaries between genres such as nonfiction, poetry and fiction are becoming blurred and uncertain. This workshop will look at the development of what is known as the 'life poem', as practised by poets like Rachel Blau Duplessis in her 'Drafts' project.
